Highlands Ranch Outdoors

The Highlands Ranch Metro District owns and maintains an impressive network of outdoor recreation amenities.  With 23 parks, more than 70 miles of trails, and 2,200 acres of natural open space areas, Highlands Ranch is home to active people and a diverse wildlife population.  In fact, 85 percent of homes in Highlands Ranch are located within one quarter mile of a park, open space area or trail.  Our community has approximately 25 acres of park land per one thousand residents.

In addition, there are two skate parks, an outdoor inline hockey rink, four dog off-leash areas, eight lighted public tennis courts, three lighted ball fields, an historic park and three community gardens.

The Backcountry Wilderness Area (formerly known as OSCA), is a wonderful place to hike and view nature.  Click here to visit the HRCA's Backcountry site and learn more about this wonderful natural area.

This section features information about Highlands Ranch Outdoors, our community's diverse outdoor amenities.

For questions about living near open space, including wildlife issues, protecting pets in your backyard, the threat of wildland fire, noxious weed management, our environmental education program, and best open space management practices, visit the Open Space Information Center. The center provides information to address these and other commonly asked questions.

Have You Lost Items in the Parks?
If you’ve lost an item in a Metro District park, there’s a chance we're holding it in our lost and found.  To find out if we have your item, please call the Metro District Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Service Center at 303-791-2710.  Give us a detailed description of the item and we'll check to see if we have it.  If we have an item that matches the description, you are welcome to visit our office at the west end of Redstone Park, to view it and claim it if it’s yours.  (This office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.)  We hold all items for at least 30 days before donating them to local charities.

E-mail the Metro District at Information Please.  When sending e-mail, please include your name and phone number so we may also have the option to call you to answer your questions.
